Today's Grooming Report

Mar 9
The conditions on the mountain were great today. I don’t think anybody expected to the snow to be as good as it was!

This storm truned out to be a dissapointment so far. Only an inch was reported on the mountain this morning. But it’s dumping now. Let’s hope this thing is just a little late.

4”

Four inches of new snow today. Not enough for a powder day, but will make things soft and fun out there.

After a beautiful day with lots of sunshine on Vail Mountain, it has finally started to snow. Hopefully something will come of the weather moving in. Maybe even a powder day or two?

2010/2011 Season Total as of February 21: 346”

Today’s seven inches was just enough to call it a Powder Day. The four we got yesterday made things nice and soft for the fresh snow that fell on top of it last night. Our incredible season continues.

12” of new snow was reported on Vail Mountain. Most of this came yesterday. More snow is on the way.

The Numbers

It’s been a incredible week in Vail with 56” of snow in the last seven days. That brings us to a total of 275” of snow this season so far. Double of what we had last season at this time!

There’s more snow in the forecast for the next few days.

Sleeper

Today was one of those sleeper powder days. The mountain only reported 2” at 5:30 am. But that was on top of 16” from yesterday. More importantly, it didn’t start snowing until about 5:30 am this morning. When it finally did start, it snowed hard and continued all day. Those that got up early said the conditions were great. Those that were up in the afternoon said conditions were incredible.

It was definitely one of the deeper days I had this year. Tomorrow will also be great but it has stopped snowing. The report tomorrow morning will be big, but keep in mind that most of that fell today. Still, we’ve  had a few feet of snow in the past couple days…so it will be good!

Strange

Today was one of the stranger powder days we’ve had this year. It started out with high winds and near whiteout conditions. The backside was shut down for most of the morning. But when it did open, things were good. It wasn’t your typical blower pow that we usually get this time of year. It was a little set up and wind blown. This type of snow can be incredible to ski. Today was no exception. The snow was fast, smooth and surfy. So much fun!

Blue Sky Basin didn’t open for the afternoon like the rest of the backside. It had all day for the snow to fill in and pile up. There will be tons of snow back there tomorrow.

Three inches were reported this morning and it’s been dumping ever since. It’s also very windy this morning. Should be a great day with lots of Pow.
