As snowstorm moves into Vail Valley, U.S. Ski Team heads home to train at Vail, Copper | Real Vail | Vail Valley News, Guides, and Information

Here’s a video from Vail Resorts of early season snow from the last two years.

Spring Skiing

Another fun day in the sun is in store for us today. Spring skiing is a local favorite. Although we love the powder days of mid-winter, we also can’t wait for these warm sunny days to come along. It’s definitely a different atmosphere and takes a little different approach to the day. In the spring, there is no hurry to get on the slopes. Unlike a powder day when you want to be in line for first chair, in the spring, there’s no hurry to get out of bed. When you do get up there, head for the groomers. Take advantage of some fast, smooth cord. Once things warm up, the back bowls start to get good. Let the sun hit them so the snow softens up. That’s when spring skiing is at it’s best. Don’t forget to stop and enjoy some sunbathing on one of the many decks throughout the mountain.

Another fun video posted by Vail Resorts.

Today’s seven inches was just enough to call it a Powder Day. The four we got yesterday made things nice and soft for the fresh snow that fell on top of it last night. Our incredible season continues.

Another Powder Day

Today was another amazing powder day at Vail. It was a little cold, but the snow was great and the sun was shinning. This week has been epic.

Cold No More

We made it through our first real cold snap of the winter. Up until a couple of days ago, it’s been a fairly warm ski season. But that all ended with temps getting well below zero the past couple nights and daytime temps not much above. Today was chilly up on the hill, but great skiing weather with plenty of sun. The rest of the week will be a bit warmer with the possibility of snow.

NOAA Seven Day Forecast

Five and Falling

Vail reported 5” as of 5:30am but the snow has been falling hard ever since. My guess is 7” right now with the possibility of another inch or two by the time the lifts open. That makes a POWDER DAY!

Another 9

Nine inches of new snow was reported on Vail Mountain this morning. It’s a Powder Day!

Chair 5 is Alive!
We finally get to ride the new Chair 5. It’s been a tough road to get here. After some late spring snow storms last May that made taking out the old 5 difficult and early snow this fall that made for some obstacles in getting the new 5 in, it’s finally time meet Vail’s newest addition. We had a little scare earlier this week when a tree fell on the lift but the new 5 wasn’t fazed and it’s ready to go.
With all the snow we got this week, it’s going to be an incredible day back there!

2010/2011 SKI SEASON

After watching Vail get pounded by one storm after another, ski season is finally here! The whole Frontside, Game Creek and Northwoods will all be open today with rumors flying that Chair 10 and possible 17 are not far behind. Things are changing so fast that it’s hard to say what’s going to happen. As if all of this wasn’t exciting enough, the forecast is showing another major storm rolling in late this weekend and lasting well into the week. Predictions for this storm are in the feet, not inches!

Welcome to the 2010/2011 ski season!
